ABOUT ELI SMITH

​

Eli was born in Perth in 1973 and completed a Diploma in Art and Design at CMC TAFE in 1996 before graduating from Curtin University of Technology in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Eli has travelled in Asia, the Middle East and around Australia. He has worked as an Art Handler/Technician in the private sector as well as major art institutions across Australia.

 

Eli has shown work in group shows at Elements Gallery (Subiaco), Emerge (North Perth), Bunbury Regional Gallery, Fremantle Arts Centre and Linden Contemporary Art Gallery (St Kilda). He held his first solo show in 2007 at Emerge Art Gallery. Later in 2007 Eli won the inaugural Perrine Contemporary Art Award at Greenhill Galleries (Perth).

Eli currently lives in Melbourne and is working on a new series of paintings. 'Slip' examines notions of triggered corporeal response as a tool to discuss our shared human-ness.
